During a Sheffield Shield Match between South Australia and New South Wales at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes, who was considered to be a promising player for the national cricket team, was struck on the side of his head by a bouncer.

Phillip Hughes, a young and talented Australian cricketer, met with a tragic accident during a Sheffield Shield Match between South Australia and New South Wales on November 25, 2014. He was hit on the head by a bouncer and suddenly fell on the field. Despite receiving medical attention, Hughes passed away two days later, just one week before his 26th birthday.

Hughes was doing well in the match and had scored fifty runs before he faced a bouncer that hit him and caused a cerebral haemorrhage, which led to his collapse. Despite medical attention and being rushed to a nearby hospital, Hughes passed away two days later, just shy of his 26th birthday. The match was halted immediately after the incident and Hughes underwent surgery in a Sydney hospital.

The tragic death of Phillip Hughes during a cricket match led to widespread discussions about player safety. The incident caused a global stir and ignited debates on how to prevent such incidents in the future. Hughes’ funeral, which took place on December 3, 2014, was attended by cricketers and officials from across the world, including Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

Phillip Hughes had a great career in cricket, representing Australia in 26 Test matches and scoring 1535 runs, including three centuries. He also played in 25 ODIs, scoring 826 runs with an average of 35.91 and strike rate of 75.09. In a series-levelling match against Sri Lanka in Hobart in 2013, he played a career-best unbeaten knock of 138 runs.

Although he played only one T20I for his country, his First-Class record was impressive, with 9,023 runs in 114 matches, including 26 hundreds and a best score of 243. His List-A record was equally remarkable, with 3,639 runs in 89 innings at an average of 47.25 and eight centuries.
