Brad Haddin gets behind the stumps
During a T20 match in 2005, Brad Haddin, representing Australia A, showcased his extraordinary improvisation skills. The game took place in Adelaide as part of Pakistan’s tour to Australia. In a surprising move, Haddin devised a clever plan to unsettle the fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar. In the very first ball of the innings, Akhtar bowled a no-ball, allowing Haddin to take two runs. Seizing the opportunity presented by the subsequent free-hit delivery, Haddin positioned himself behind the stumps and skillfully struck the ball over mid-wicket. This unorthodox stroke caught everyone off guard, leaving them astounded.
Haddin and his partner managed to complete two runs. Adding to Akhtar’s misfortune, the delivery was once again declared a no-ball, compelling him to bowl yet another free hit. Undeterred, Haddin once again adopted the strategy of standing behind the stumps and attempting the same stroke. However, this time Akhtar bowled a yorker, successfully dismissing Haddin’s wicket. As a bowled dismissal off a free hit does not count, a comedic sequence of events unfolded, resulting in the batsmen running a bye off the delivery.

Although the dismissal did not officially count, it provided a gratifying moment for the bowler as he successfully sent the batsman off the pitch, cleanly removing him from play. Nevertheless, Akhtar had his revenge later in the over when he managed to cleanly bowl out Haddin once again, this time with a legitimate delivery, resulting in the wicketkeeper-batsman being compelled to leave the field and return to the pavilion.
