Cricket Viral Video: Kumar Sangakkara is among the most underrated players ever. Rarely anyone talks about him while mentioning the best-ever players when he must be topping almost every chart.
The team that Sri Lanka had during that time is also very underrated. They had elite players at every position and even won the 1996 ODI World Cup, but still, no one mentions that team. The golden phase of Sri Lanka was something else.
During that golden phase of Sri Lankan cricket, Kumar Sangakkara did a freak stumping against Australia that might still be the best stumping in cricket ever. And in Sanga’s own words, he had no idea how it happened.
Cricket Viral Video: A Freak Stumping
The incident occurred in 2003 during a bilateral series between Sri Lanka and Australia. Mathew Hayden and Jimmy Maher were batting for Australia and looking to build a good opening partnership.
Aussies were chasing a target of 212 and were sailing towards the target with 76 in 14 overs with no wicket. That is when Muttiah Murlidharan did his magic. A ball to the middle stump turned away from Jimmy, shocking everyone on the field.
Even Sanga did not know where the ball was going and initially misjudged it. But he quickly recovered and dived to his left to collect the ball. And while being off balance, he threw the ball towards to wicket to claim the stumping.
‘I Had No Idea’
In Sanga’s words, he states that he had no clue where the ball was going. He thought the delivery was a ‘doosra’ and would turn inside. But he soon realized that he made a mistake. The left-hander was thankful he had time to recover but felt sorry for the batsman who could not recover.
