Cricket Viral Video: Madan Lal emerged as one of the very talented player in a short span of time. Although he wasn’t as successful in Test matches as he was in domestic cricket, he still contributed to India’s victory in the 1983 World Cup. He also had stunning fielding abilities, showing the same, he once took a catch in Australia, that took the cricketing world by storm.
Madan Lal’s amazing catch
During the 1977/78 cricket tour, Kerry Packer’s SuperTests had a significant impact on the tournament. However, Madan Lal started the series strongly, achieving figures of 1-27 and 5-72 in Brisbane, and 1-54 and 2-44 (along with an impressive score of 43 runs off 35 balls) in Perth. I
In the fourth Test match, Bishan Singh Bedi and Chandrasekhar also had excellent performances with the ball, bowling out Australia for just 131 runs. During an Australian inning, Peter Toohey and Jeff Thomson had already made 14 runs, when Karsan Ghavri bowled a bouncer, on which Toohey played a hook shot. The ball went like a rocket, to the left – the wrong side – of Madan Lal on the long-leg fence.
As one of the fastest runners in the Indian side, Madan Lal sprinted after the ball, which was hit very low and flat, losing altitude at a rapid pace. Despite the difficult circumstances, Lal made an incredible catch by flinging himself to his left. Following this, Ghavri cleaned up Thomson, which brought an end to the Australian innings just two runs short of the innings-defeat margin. This win was particularly noteworthy as it was India’s first-ever innings victory away from home.
