To maintain their chances in the five-match series, New Zealand, who were already trailing 2-0, faced a target of 288 to chase in the third ODI. Will Young (33) and Tom Blundell (65) provided a solid start, adding 83 runs for the first wicket. However, New Zealand started losing wickets at regular intervals thereafter.

Tom Latham (45) and Cole McConchie (64 not out) then steadied the innings, taking the score to 196-5 after 41 overs. In the following over, Latham attempted to guide the first ball bowled by Mohammad Wasim but failed to score as the ball rolled towards Mohammad Rizwan.

Eyeing Latham’s intentions, Babar Azam made a tactical move by bringing the fine-leg fielder inside the circle, aiming to prevent Latham from taking a single. With the boundary left unguarded, Latham adjusted his position and tried to loft the ball over Rizwan as the fielder now positioned closer. Unfortunately, Latham misjudged the line entirely, leading to the ball crashing into the stumps and resulting in a clean dismissal.

Despite Tom Latham’s dismissal, Cole McConchie continued to put up a fight. However, the lower order consisting of Adam Milne, Henry Shipley, Ish Sodhi, and Matt Henry failed to make substantial contributions. Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi (2-53), Naseem Shah (2-42), and Mohammad Wasim (2-50) claimed two wickets each, leading to New Zealand’s downfall with a final score of 261. With this victory, Pakistan now holds an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series. The last two matches are scheduled to take place on May 5 and 7 at the same venue.
