Cricket Viral Video: Between 2000 and 2004, India experimented with eight different wicketkeepers in Test cricket matches, namely MSK Prasad, Saba Karim, Vijay Dahiya, Sameer Dighe, Deep Dasgupta, Ajay Ratra, Parthiv Patel, and Dinesh Karthik. However, nobody seemed to ace the problem as Rahul Dravid was made permanent in this role. Soon, Dhoni emerged as wicketkeeping option for India. Though his start in international cricket was below par, he soon made a name for himself by hitting a century against Pakistan in just his fifth ODI.

MS Dhoni hits back at Pakistan

Despite his lacklustre debut, Dhoni’s ability to hit the ball exceptionally hard had earned him a reputation in the Indian cricket circuit, and the selectors still had faith in him for the One Day Internationals (ODIs). However, concerns were raised when he scored just three runs in the first ODI against Pakistan, three months after the Bangladesh tour where he was out on duck in first ever match.

Despite concerns over his performance in the first ODI, the Indian camp still believed in Mahendra Singh Dhoni and backed him for the second ODI against Pakistan, held in Visakhapatnam. Indian captain Sourav Ganguly won the toss and chose to bat first. After Sachin Tendulkar was run out in the fourth over, Dhoni came out to bat.

In his first four ODIs, Dhoni had batted at number 7, but this time he had Virender Sehwag as his partner, and he could take his time at the crease. He took 49 balls to score his first 50 runs, followed by 39 for his second 50, and another 35 for his last 47 runs. In total, Dhoni hit 15 fours and four sixes during his innings.

Sehwag also contributed to the Indian innings with a blistering 74 runs off 40 balls, while Rahul Dravid scored a 59-ball 52 from the number 5 position. However, it was Dhoni’s maiden century that became the talk of the town and the nation. India posted a total of 356-9, and eventually won the match by 58 runs.
