At the Kia Oval, Welsh Fire chose to bat and posted a total of 138-6, led by a solid innings from wicketkeeper Joe Clarke, who remained unbeaten with a remarkable 69 off 46 balls. In the season opener for Welsh Fire, captain Tom Abell handed the ball to Shaheen Shah Afridi to bowl the first over, targeting Jason Roy from Manchester Originals. On the previous occasion, Shaheen showcased prodigious swing, dismissing Phil Salt and Laurie Evans with his first two balls. This time, his opening delivery was a full toss outside off stump, causing Roy to mishit the ball towards backward point. Unfortunately for Roy, he couldn’t control the shot, and Glenn Phillips displayed remarkable athleticism by diving to his left and executing an exceptional low catch.
