Ravi Shastri is renowned for his achievement of hitting six consecutive sixes in a single over, which also remains as the biggest highlight of his batting career. However, his best performance in ODI cricket came with the ball against Australia in 1991 when he took five wickets in the match while giving away just 15 runs, that too, the match happened in Perth.
Ravi Shastri’s 5-wicket haul against Australia in the Benson & Hedges World Series match at Perth on December 8, 1991, is a memorable moment in Indian cricket history. Despite a formidable Australian side featuring David Boon, Steve Waugh, Tom Moody, Allan Border, and Dean Jones, Shastri’s outstanding bowling performance took away all the limelight.
Batting first India scored 208 runs and many thought that the Aussies will have a win from thereon. However, the Men in Blue bundled out their innings for just 101 runs, as Ravi led the charge and picked up crucial wickets. His fifer included Waugh, Simon O’Donnell, Ian Healy, Peter Taylor and Craig McDermott.
