Cricket Viral Video: In the 1992 World Cup, Team India led by Mohammed Azharuddin played an exhilarating match against Australia. It was match number 12 of the tournament and the Gabba, known as Australia’s stronghold in modern-day cricket, hosted the clash between the two former world champions. Despite being a daunting venue for visitors, the Brisbane pitch appeared to be a batting paradise for the young Indian batsman, Sanjay Manjrekar, during the 1992 World Cup.

Quick-fire knock by Sanjay Manjrekar

During the match, the late Dean Jones and Azharuddin top-scored for their respective teams. However, it was Manjrekar’s performance that proved to be crucial for Team India, almost securing them a memorable win. Despite it being his first World Cup appearance, the 27-year-old made an impressive entrance, playing a quick-fire knock against the mighty Aussies in Brisbane. Manjrekar’s match-changing performance saw him smash 47 runs off just 42 balls, taking the thriller encounter into the death overs before being unfortunately run out.

In their match at the Gabba, Australia batted first and Allan Border-led side reach a total of 237/9 in the 47-over contest. In the match, India was asked to chase a revised target of 234. Unfortunately, they lost Sachin Tendulkar and Kris Srikkanth early on. However, the team’s skipper, Azharuddin, played an outstanding captain’s innings, scoring 93 runs to lead from the front. Along with him, Manjrekar also contributed with a valuable knock, missing out on his maiden World Cup half-century by a narrow margin.

Regarding Manjrekar’s impressive innings, the Indian batsman had a higher strike rate (111.90) than any of the Australian batsmen who had batted against India in the Brisbane encounter at that time. Despite his entertaining knock, Manjrekar was unfortunately dismissed in the 45th over, and his performance ultimately went in vain. Australia managed to register a thrilling one-run win over India at The Gabba.
