Sanjay Manjrekar’s blistering knock vs Australia

During a match where Dean Jones and Azharuddin emerged as the highest scorers for their respective teams, Sanjay Manjrekar played a pivotal role for Team India. Despite being just 27 years old at the time and playing his first World Cup match, Manjrekar almost guided the Asian giants to a remarkable victory. He made a stylish entrance by delivering a rapid knock against the formidable Australian team in Brisbane. Manjrekar blazed his way to a match-altering 47 runs off 42 balls, prolonging the thrilling encounter until the final overs before eventually being run out.

Dean Jones emerged as the highest scorer for Australia at the Gabba as they batted first. The middle-order batsman played a crucial role, smashing 90 runs, which propelled the team led by Allan Border to a total of 237/9 in the 47-over match.

India, given the revised target of 234, suffered early setbacks with the dismissals of Sachin Tendulkar and Kris Srikkanth at a low score. However, skipper Azharuddin played a remarkable innings of 93, leading from the front. Sanjay Manjrekar, on the other hand, came close to achieving his first World Cup half-century but fell short.
