Cricket Viral Video: Pakistan’s captain, Shahid Afridi, shocked everyone by biting the cricket ball while fielding during an ODI match in Perth versus Australia. Even though it is considered unlawful in cricketing jargon, ball-tampering is a very old “art.” C
Cricket players have experimented with several different methods over the years in an effort to get an advantage, including using their fingernails, glue, mints, Vaseline, and sandpaper. All of it, though, was just for lower mortals. Afridi is capable of going above and beyond what others may call normal.
Shahid Afridi bites the ball
This amusing incident happened during the last game of a five-match ODI series. Before getting through a dingle run, Australia, who was already leading 4-0, bowled out both of Pakistan’s openers. Pakistan reached 212 thanks to Shoaib Malik’s 36, Umar Akmal’s 67, and Fawad Alam’s 64, with Ryan Harris taking 3-44 and Clint McKay 4-35.
After the coin toss, which the stand-in captain won, everything started to go wrong. Each of the opening batsmen, Salman Butt and Khalid Latif, lasted five deliveries before failing to get a run. Two wickets for no runs were the score after 11 deliveries. Then, Pakistan fought back, taking wickets at regular intervals as Michael Hussey (40 not out) and Ricky Ponting (55), who were both holding steady, continued to bat. Rana Naved-ul-Hasan caught Mitchell Johnson behind in the 44th over. Australia was behind by 35 runs, 178-7.
It was at this point that the enormous screens revealed that Afridi had been busy, for good or ill, biting on the ball, while a confused, almost ashamed, Naved turned his head away. The on-field umpires, Paul Reiffel and Asoka de Silva, were promptly made aware of the situation by the television umpire, Rod Tucker. After checking, they had the ball changed.

After the game, Afridi stunned everyone by saying, “I was trying to smell it,” however he eventually admitted it to match referee Ranjan Madugalle. Due to his violation of the ICC Code of Conduct’s 2.2.9 offence (“changing the condition of the ball in violation of Law 42.3 of the Laws of Cricket”), he was suspended for two T20 Internationals.
