Cricket Viral Video: In 1996, Afridi achieved one of the most remarkable feats in his career by hitting the fastest ODI century ever recorded. During his second One Day International match against Sri Lanka, the Pakistani all-rounder smashed his way to a century in a mere 37 deliveries. This record remained unbeaten for more than 17 years, highlighting the incredible achievement by Afridi.
Afridi’s record-breaking century
In 2014, Corey Anderson made history by hitting a century in just 36 balls, breaking the previous record. Currently, the top spot belongs to AB de Villiers from South Africa, who in 2015, scored an astonishing 100 runs in only 31 balls during an ODI match against the West Indies.
Shahid Afridi’s memorable knock took place during the KCA Centenary Tournament league match on October 4, 1996, where the Men in Green were facing off against Sri Lanka. Pakistan took to the crease first and lost their first wicket, Saleem Elahi, with only 60 runs on the scoreboard. However, what happened next was nothing short of a complete demolition of the Sri Lankan bowling attack.
Afridi, who came to bat at number three, played an outstanding inning of 102 runs off just 40 deliveries. During his innings, he smashed six boundaries and a staggering 11 maximums, resulting in an impressive strike rate of 255. The only player who could halt the heroics of Afridi was KSC de Silva.

In addition to Afridi’s incredible performance, the opening batsman Saeed Anwar also played a crucial role in the match, scoring an impressive 115 runs in 120 deliveries. The combined efforts of these two batsmen helped Pakistan achieve a mammoth total of 371 runs. During their chase of 372 runs, Sri Lanka managed to score 289 runs in total, losing the match by 82 runs. Aravinda de Silva was the standout performer for his team, scoring 122 runs off just 116 deliveries.
