He was the highest run-scorer in the tournament, amassing 349 runs with a stunning average of 116.33, including a remarkable 129-run innings in the semi-final against England that resulted in a victory for India. Pujara, who at the time was known for his free-flowing white-ball style, showcased his ability to accumulate runs in a dominant fashion. Despite facing early spin from Moeen Ali and benefiting from a dropped chance, Pujara compiled 129 not out off 146 balls to lead India to a winning total of 292.
He formed a 112-run partnership with Rohit Sharma, reaching his first 100 runs in 135 deliveries and adding the next 29 runs in just 11 balls. Pujara finished the tournament as the highest run-scorer, 11 runs ahead of Eoin Morgan of Ireland, and was awarded the Player of the Tournament title. Today, Pujara’s style of play is known for his determination and tenacity in Test cricket, relying on defense instead of attack.
