Cricket Viral Video: Dale Steyn, one of cricket’s greatest fast bowlers, is known for his on and off field behaviour. His stats already rake him higher in the list but his sporting attitude for the game and teammates is what he is widely praised for.
Despite continuing to play limited-overs cricket, Steyn had retired from Test cricket in 2019. Prior to being rendered ineffective by injuries, he played his final international game for South Africa against Australia in a T20I match in February 2020. The right-arm pacer also participated in a number of franchise T20 leagues around the world.
Dale Steyn halts run-up for selfie
We look back on a time when Steyn interrupted a cricket match to snap a selfie with the batsman as he decided to hang up his boots from all kinds of cricket. A cricket match in the Nelson Mandela Legacy Cup pitted the South African cricket team against the country’s rugby side in 2014.
One of the game’s most exciting moments occurred when Steyn paused his run-up in the middle and approached former South African rugby star Victor Matfield, who was batting, to snap a photo with him. The image was later posted on social media by Steyn and Matfield.

In a 15-year career, Steyn played 93 Tests, 125 ODIs, and 47 T20Is. He still holds the record for South Africa’s most wickets in the longest format, having taken 439 at an average of 22.95. Steyn is only behind James Anderon, Stuart Broad, Glenn McGrath, and Courtney Walsh in terms of pacers with the most Test wickets.
