Cricket Viral Video: The Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan is considered as one of the greatest player to have graced cricket. His tally of 1300+ international wickets speak for himself. He has 800 test wickets to his name, making him the highest wicket-taker in the format. The spin-maestro has given several memorable moments and there is one instance which comes straight from his first match on the England soil.
Muttiah Muralitharan rattles up the stump
The incident is from the Sri Lanka versus England test in the year 1998. During the only test match, the spin master Muttiah took 16 wickets as his team emerged victorious by 10 wickets. However, there is a special delivery by him which dismissed Mark Butcher and is still sticked up to in the heart of every cricket enthusiast.
On an Edgbaston surface that was not particularly spin-friendly, Mark was batting well, at 94. No matter how well he was batting, this ball could not have been stopped. Murali approaches the wicket while a little bit outside the crease. Butcher chooses to linger back of the crease rather than advance and kick the ball away, which may be due to the ball travelling through the air a little bit more quickly.
But it quickly becomes clear that this will fizzle. First there is a significant drop, which indicates speed and maybe overspin. While the ball is whooshing past to thwack against the top of off and remove a single bail, Butcher’s bat is lowering to block a delivery that is aimed for leg stump.

Then, following this unexpected turn of events, two of Murali’s most recognisable images appeared: the batsman gazing back at his rattling stump and then back at the surface on which the ball struck. The bowler comes forward Butcher with the narrow sneer and swagger as soon as his eyes flash up to Murali.
