Rahul Dravid’s exceptional knock
A clear testament to Dravid’s exceptional abilities was his career-defining double century at Kennington Oval during the 2002 tour. During that innings, Dravid not only overshadowed Sachin Tendulkar’s historic 100th Test milestone but also showcased a magnificent display of strokes en route to his then-career-best score of 217. England, batting first, had posted a formidable total of 515 runs in their first innings.
Following India’s turn to bat, they suffered early setbacks with the dismissals of Virendra Sehwag (12) and Sanjay Bangar (21) at a low cost. However, Rahul Dravid took charge and anchored the innings from that point onward, displaying a masterful command over the ball. His ability to play shots all around the ground left the English bowlers bewildered, as they struggled to find a suitable line and length to bowl.
Maintaining his composure, Rahul Dravid appeared completely focused and in his element even after reaching a century in 213 balls. As Day 4 began, Dravid started on 131 and seemed ready for an extended stay at the crease. The English bowlers, much like the previous day, struggled to find an effective strategy against Dravid’s extensive range of shots. Unfortunately, his monumental innings came to an end through a run-out, seemingly the only way the opposition could dismiss him. He hit 28 boundaries in his inning.
