While batting first, England was only able to make only 156 runs. It was their lowest total against Sri Lanka in the World Cup. Ben Stokes was the only batsman who showed some fight and scored a spirited 43 runs.
While chasing, Sri Lanka was completely in charge of the match. After losing two wickets early on, Pathum Nissanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama stabilized the innings and carried the Lankans to the finish line.
Both of them scored brilliant and gritty half-centuries and disabled every English attack. The bowlers had no answer against their batting. It was a brilliant effort by both of them that ensured that they would be the ones to stand tall in this do-or-die battle.
