Cricket Viral Video: The stage was set in Sydney in 1992 for ICC World Cup Semifinal to be played between South Africa and England, with ominous weather hovering overhead. After winning the toss, the South African captain, Kepler Wessels, elected to field first. It was a 45-overs-a-side match, and unarguably one of the most controversial ones in the history of cricket. The highlights of this game have gone viral on social media and are still surprising cricket lovers across the globe.
How things went South for South Africa
England got off to a shaky start, with their captain Graham Gooch and opener Ian Botham departing early. But then Alec Stewart and Graeme Hick combined to produce a crucial partnership that put them back on track, and they managed to post a respectable total of 252/6 in their allotted overs.
South Africa’s chase was going well too, with opener Andrew Hudson and Adrian Kuiper making important contributions, followed by Jonty Rhodes, who looked in good form. But then the rain came, and the match was halted for just twelve minutes. When it resumed, the officials made the controversial decision to deduct overs from South Africa’s innings. But then something strange happened. As the rain continued to fall, the officials changed the equation, making it 21 runs to win off just one ball! It was an unprecedented and utterly bewildering decision, which left the South Africans stunned.
