Cricket Viral Video: During the T20 World Cup 2016 match at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangladesh required 11 runs in the final over to defeat India. They lost by a run as the then-skipper MS Dhoni guided India to one of the most epic victories.
Given the batting opportunity, India faced difficulties throughout their innings, managing to reach a total of 146-7. Bangladesh’s bowlers effectively disrupted India’s batting rhythm with Suresh Raina emerging as the leading run-scorer with 30 off 23 balls while Virat Kohli scored 24 off 24 balls. Bangladesh possessed a deep batting lineup, allowing them the luxury of keeping Mushfiqur Rahim as low as the No.8 position to launch a decisive late charge. When he entered the grounf, Bangladesh required 21 runs from 13 balls. Mahmudullah promptly struck a boundary, reducing the target further. An exceptional 19th over delivered by Jasprit Bumrah, giving away only six singles, proved important in preventing Bangladesh’s progress.
MS Dhoni shows true leadership
MS Dhoni, the captain then, entrusted Hardik Pandya with the ball, choosing him over other options. Pandya followed a strategy of bowling wide yorkers. Mushfiqur Rahim, Bangladesh’s batsman, adeptly responded by adjusting his position and hitting precise shots. First, Mushfiqur managed a single, reducing the target to 10 runs from 5 balls. Then, he skilfully placed a shot between cover and deep point, bringing it down to 6 runs from 4 balls. With another smart shot, he got a boundary, leaving Bangladesh needing 2 runs from 3 balls.
However, Pandya’s short-pitched delivery led to Mushfiqur’s wicket. Shuvagata Hom, the new batsman, was at the non-striker’s end with 2 runs needed from 2 balls. In the next ball, Pandya unintentionally delivered a low full-toss. Mahmudullah attempted a daring shot, but Jadeja caught it as the batters crossed yet again. This brought the equation to 1 run required from the final ball.
Pandya aimed to challenge Hom’s bat. To avoid a potential bye, Dhoni prepared to throw by removing his left glove. However, he didn’t need to use it. Surprisingly, No.10 batsman Mustafizur Rahman, joined Hom. However, he couldn’t time it and the ball went straight to Dhoni. The batters, in the hope of drawing the match still started running. Inevitably, Rahman couldn’t outfast Dhoni who reached to the stumps and run-out him. This led to India winning by a solitary run.
