Cricket Viral Video: Ball-tampering is one of the worst accusations that can ever be held upon any cricketer. Rahul Dravid, who is presently the coach of the Senior men’s national team and is renowned for his skills and gentlemanly abilities, was once caught up in such controversy too. The incident happened in 2004 during a match against Zimbabwe and remains one of the darkest moments of not just Dravid’s career but the entirety of Indian cricket.
Did Rahul Dravid do ball tampering?
In 2004, Rahul was the captain of Indian cricket team and he was accused of rubbing a cough lozenge on the ball to alter its condition and aid reverse swing. The incident occurred during the final Test of a three-match series, which India had already won. The umpires noticed the unusual shine on the ball and immediately reported it to the match referee, who charged Dravid with a Level 2 offence under the ICC Code of Conduct.
However, Dravid admitted that he used lozenge but also claimed that he did not do it to change any conditions in the ball and it was purely related to game. He was still fined 50% of his match fees by the match referee Clive Llyod. Experts belive that he would have suffered greater consequences if he did not have great records backing him.
