Cricket Viral Video: Vinod Kambli scored 22 runs in a Shane Warne over during the 1994 Austral-Asia Cup semi-final in Sharjah. Despite losing to Pakistan by six wickets, India still managed to overcome the UAE by 71 runs and go to the tournament’s semifinals. Sunil Gavaskar, who was on the commentary team, filled in after coach/manager Ajit Wadekar had a heart attack in the middle of the competition.
While Sri Lanka, who was still a few years away from winning the world championship, and New Zealand were easily defeated by Australia. India was their next opponent in the semifinals. Australia scored 244-9 there, supported by Steve Waugh’s 52 and Matthew Hayden’s 48, with 3-32 from Javagal Srinath and 3-50 from Anil Kumble. Hayden batted at No. 6, a position above wicketkeeper Justin Langer, during these distinct instances.
22-year old Vinod Kambili shatters Warne’s spell
Ajay Jadeja (87) and Navjot Sidhu (80) kept India in the game despite the early loss of Sachin Tendulkar, their newly discovered opener from the New Zealand tour earlier that year. India had seven wickets in hand and had to chase 31 in six overs. Mohammad Azharuddin and Kambli were at the crease, each having scored 31 runs off of 34 balls.
Less than a year after bowling the Century Ball, Warne entered the ring. Up to that time, he had been exceptional; in his 8-0-18-2, he had dismissed both Jadeja and Sidhu. He began to bowl at a left-hander now for the first time.
The first ball by Warne was straight hit out for six by Kambli. Warne’s following ball very likely slipped from his grasp. A no-ball was called by the umpire when Langer caught the high full toss. In any case, it would have been deemed a wide.
As the second ball was thrown up by Warne, who pitched it higher than the first, Kambli covered four with his power this time. Warne again kept the length back but to no avail as Kambli once again hit the six.

Warne had some sigh of breath after giving up 17 in the previous three balls when Kambli played the following ball to cover. Next, Warne delivered a ball with a short pitch. Kambli made four runs on this one. The subsequent ball, on leg and middle, sailed past the centre of the wicket. Warne ultimately decided to round the wicket after failing to restrict Kambli and it was a dot one.
