Cricket Viral Video: During India’s tour of Australia in the year 2018, an odd sight was witnessed at the Melbourne Cricket Ground during the Boxing Day Test between Australia and India. A third captain was out with the two players, joining captains Tim Paine of Australia and Virat Kohli of India.
Seven-year-old Archie Schiller, who was named the Australian cricket team’s vice-captain for this game, had a memorable experience to cherish. India won the toss and elected to bat, with Virat Kohli giving debuts to Mayank Agarwal, Ravindra Jadeja, and Rohit Sharma. When the host questioned Paine on what he would have done, he replied that he was unsure but had talked to Archie.
Archie walked to the dugout with the rest of the Australian players after the singing of the national anthems.
Why was a seven-year old appointed as Australia’s skipper?
Archie Schiller’s life story is one of inspiration and overcoming obstacles at an early age. Archie had a cardiac problem that required immediate surgery when he was just three months old. He underwent yet another round of cardiac surgery six months later, and he underwent his third open-heart procedure in Melbourne in 2017. Archie’s parents were concerned about whether he would survive this surgery. Fortunately, he did.
The work of Make-A-Wish Australia, which discovered Archie’s circumstances and goals during his operation in 2017, allowed Archie to be appointed co-captain of the Australia cricket team.
Tim Paine gave him the delightful news
When Justin Langer, the team’s current coach, called him during Australia’s visit to the UAE against Pakistan last year, it became known that he had been added to the squad. Archie received the news from Australian captain Paine on December 22, the day of his seventh birthday. On Christmas, when a Family Day was announced by BUPA at Yarra Park prior of the third Test, he was officially confirmed as the vice-captain.
