Cricket Viral Video: In the 2018 Boxing Day Test between Australia and India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, an unusual sight unfolded. Besides captains Tim Paine of Australia and Virat Kohli of India, a third captain was present, marking a unique incident during India’s tour of Australia that year.

Why was a seven-year-old boy appointed vice-captain?

Seven-year-old Archie Schiller, who had been appointed as the vice-captain of the Australian cricket team for this match, enjoyed a truly unforgettable experience. During this game, India won the toss and chose to bat, with Virat Kohli introducing debutants Mayank Agarwal, Ravindra Jadeja, and Rohit Sharma. When asked about his decision had he won the toss, Australian captain Tim Paine mentioned that he had consulted Archie but remained uncertain. Archie then joined the rest of the Australian players in the dugout after the national anthems were sung.

At the tender age of three months, Archie faced a critical cardiac issue that necessitated urgent surgery. Six months later, he bravely underwent another cardiac procedure, followed by a third open-heart surgery in Melbourne in 2017. The uncertainty surrounding his survival was a source of deep concern for his parents, but thankfully, Archie not only played but also emerged victorious.

Make-A-Wish Australia played a pivotal role in Archie’s remarkable journey. After learning about Archie’s situation and aspirations during his operation in 2017, they made it possible for him to achieve his dream of becoming co-captain of the Australian cricket team.

Justin Langer, the current coach of the team, contacted Archie during Australia’s tour of the UAE against Pakistan last year, revealing that he had been included in the squad. The exciting news was delivered to Archie by Australian captain Tim Paine on his seventh birthday, December 22. The official confirmation of his role as vice-captain came on Christmas Day, during a Family Day event announced by BUPA at Yarra Park ahead of the third Test.
