Cricket Viral Video: Virender Sehwag is renowned as one of the most explosive Indian cricketers, known for his remarkable ability to score runs swiftly. However, what often goes unnoticed is his proficiency as a bowler. In 2008, he achieved a significant milestone by securing a five-wicket haul, a remarkable feat, especially considering it was against the formidable Australian cricket team.
Virendra Sehwag turns bowler
During the third Test of the Indian leg of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in late 2008, the Indian team opted to bat first on a batting-friendly pitch. They enjoyed a productive batting session, ending in a declaration of their innings at 613/7. However, Ishant Sharma and Zaheer Khan struggled to make breakthroughs against the Australian batting lineup. In this situation, with only four frontline bowlers at his disposal, team captain Anil Kumble turned to Virender Sehwag.
In that match, Sehwag showed his clever bowling skills, taking crucial wickets for the team. He successfully dismissed prominent Australian batsmen, including Matthew Hayden, Ricky Ponting, Michael Hussey, Shane Watson, and Cameron White. Sehwag’s dismissal of Hayden occurred when the batsman was declared leg-before by Billy Bowden in the second delivery of the 58th over.
He dismissed Ponting out of the crease, and the sharply turning ball missed everything, landing on the stumps. In the 102nd over, Sehwag bowled out Michael Hussey after pitching on the middle and off. Additionally, he claimed the wickets of Watson and White, using his spin-bowling prowess effectively.

When the visiting team’s innings concluded at 577, Virender Sehwag, the part-time bowler, had conceded over 100 runs in his 40 overs. However, his performance was remarkable because he had never bowled such an extensive spell in a single innings before, and he had also achieved the milestone of taking five wickets in an innings, a feat he hadn’t accomplished previously.
