KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, and Virat Kohli had all departed to the pavilion, creating an opportunity for these experienced campaigners to take charge. And that’s precisely what they accomplished. The combination of left and right-handed batsmen proved effective as they started building the runs before launching an aggressive assault on the bowling. Eoin Morgan tried various tactics by rotating his bowlers and altering the field placements, but his options were swiftly dwindling.
Both Yuvraj and Dhoni exercised caution until they reached their respective half-centuries, but after that, they unleashed a frenzy of aggressive batting. While Yuvraj exhibited his stylish finesse in shot-making, Dhoni’s strokes were marked by sheer power, frequently finding their way to the boundary and beyond.
The partnership between the two veterans yielded a staggering 256 runs for the 4th wicket. Yuvraj eventually departed after a splendid knock of 150 runs in 127 balls, studded with 21 boundaries and 3 sixes. On the other hand, Dhoni continued to dominate, propelling India’s score with his explosive hitting, amassing 100 runs from the final 7 overs. He was dismissed towards the conclusion, but not before contributing an exceptional 134 runs in 122 balls, comprising 10 fours and 6 sixes.

India piled up a total of 381/6 and went on to secure a 15-run victory to claim the series, marking Virat Kohli’s maiden triumph as India’s full-time ODI captain. The series concluded with India triumphing 2-1.
Interestingly, these remarkable innings would mark the final instances when either Yuvraj or Dhoni achieved a century in One Day Internationals. Yuvraj’s journey in the national side across formats ended several months later, leading to his retirement in 2019. Meanwhile, Dhoni continued playing until the 2019 World Cup before eventually announcing his retirement in 2020.
