ICC ODI World Cup 2023: The much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is set to take place at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. This will be the first encounter between the arch-rivals on Indian soil since 2016. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning a grand launch event after the conclusion of IPL 2023 to officially announce the schedule for the 50-over World Cup. The tournament is expected to kick off on October 5, subject to all arrangements falling into place.
BCCI to kick off ICC ODI World Cup 2023 with Ind vs Pak
In a strategic move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has chosen the prestigious Ahmedabad stadium to host the highly-anticipated India vs Pakistan match in light of the expected influx of international spectators. With its impressive capacity of 1 lakh seats, the Narendra Modi Stadium, known as the largest cricket stadium globally, will provide the perfect stage for this high-stakes encounter between the two cricketing giants.
Alongside Ahmedabad, several other prominent cities in India have made it to the shortlist for hosting matches in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup. Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot, and Mumbai are all being considered as potential venues. With a total of 48 matches, including three thrilling knockout rounds, scheduled over 46 days, a grand tournament is on the cards.
Where will Pakistan play its matches?
Out of the mentioned cities, only seven will serve as hosts for the league games in India. If the Indian team qualifies for the final, Ahmedabad is likely to be the sole venue where they will play two matches. As per the available information, Bengaluru and Chennai are expected to be the preferred choices for Pakistan’s matches due to security reasons. Eden Gardens in Kolkata also remains a strong contender as a potential host venue.
To facilitate travel for supporters from neighbouring Bangladesh, it is likely that a significant number of their matches will be held in Kolkata and Guwahati. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) aims to conclude matches in the southern regions of the country before the first week of November due to the onset of the monsoon season during October and November.
