Dipika Pallikal: Dinesh Kartik’s resurrection story to the Top of cricket was nothing less than miraculous. When everyone considered him finished he made his return to the top of the cricket mountain as one of the best finishers in IPL and then for India.
One person remained with him through thick and thin and stayed with him like his pillar. It was none other than his wife, Dipika Pallikal. And her own story is also one to marvel at.
Dipika is an international-level squash player who became the first Indian professional squash player to enter the top 10 PSA Women’s ranking. She has won three WISPA tour titles.
Dipika Pallikal Professional Career
The three-time WISPA winner started her career in 2006. Her career has been filled with ups and downs. She started winning consistently in 2011 and won her first WISPA title in that year only.
Her next two WISPA titles also came in the same year and she achieved her career highest ranking. Next year, she reached even new heights and became the first Indian to reach the final of the Tournament of Champions.
She qualified for a gold event after and reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open in the same year. Dipika achieved her career-best rating in 2012 and broke into the top 10 rankings. She also became the first Squash player to receive the Arjuna Award.
She won the gold medal in Commonwealth Games 2014 and was also part of the Indian team that won gold in the Asian Games 2016. And her career-highest peak came when she won the 2016 Australian Open. Making it her 11th PSA title.
Historic Win
In her final appearance at the continental championship, Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu took home the squash mixed doubles gold medal at the Asian Games 2023. It was a historic moment for India and one that will be etched into history forever.
