India’s Olympic medal-winning wrestlers, led by Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, are opposing Wrestling Federation of India president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh. Brij Bhushan has been accused of sexual exploitation and wrestlers are demanding his arrest. Meanwhile, the medal winners of India have got the support of the players of Team India which won the 1983 World Cup.
Wrestler reached Haridwar on the pretext of medal
On May 28, when the wrestlers marched towards the new Parliament House, they were taken into custody by the Delhi Police. However, later the wrestlers were also released. Not only this, the sit-in demonstration at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar was also called off and their tents were removed.
After this, on May 30, the wrestlers reached Haridwar and decided to throw the medals won in many international competitions, including the Olympics, into the Ganges. However, on the demand of farmer leader Naresh Tikait, the wrestlers postponed the decision to shed their medals in the Ganges.
Now the Indian cricket team that won the 1983 World Cup has come out in support of the wrestlers. These include many legendary cricketers including Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar and Madanlal. All of them have issued a joint statement and appealed to the wrestlers not to throw the medals in the Ganges.
In the statement, these former veteran cricketers have said that what happened to the wrestlers is sad, but they should not throw their hard earned medals in the Ganges. The champion team of 1983 said that the wrestlers have brought laurels to the country. He should not take any decision in haste. It is expected that the demand of the wrestlers will be heard.
In the statement, the champion team of 1983 wrote – We are distressed and troubled by the misbehavior with our champion wrestlers. We are also most concerned about the fact that they are thinking of pouring their hard earned money into the river Ganga. Those medals include years of effort, sacrifice, determination and grit and those medals are not only his own but the pride and joy of the nation. We urge them not to take any hasty decision in this matter and also hope that their grievances will be heard and resolved at the earliest. Let the law of the land prevail.

The Indian cricket team, led by captain Kapil Dev, won the ODI World Cup trophy for the first time by defeating West Indies led by Clive Lloyd.
