Quincy Promes: A Dutch court on Monday sentenced Netherland football player Quincy Promes to 18 months of prison on the charges of assault. The Spartak-Moscow player stabbed his cousin on the knee back in 2020 at a house party.
It was known that the matter escalated over a stolen necklace. It ended with Promes stabbing his cousin in the knee. The forward pleaded not guilty in the court of law but was not present at the hearing because he lives in Russia.
His lawyer stated that Promes was disappointed over the decision. Promes is ready to appeal to a higher court. His lawyer also stated that anyone else would have only gotten a year sentence, but because of his public profile, Promes got an extended sentence.
Not His First Crime
It is not the first time that Quincy Promes has been convicted of a major crime. In May, Promes was charged with importing 1302 kilos of cocaine. He was going to import the cocaine through the Belgian port of Antwerp in 2020.
The transfer took place in two shipments, with each one weighing around 600 kg. After the incident, people started referring to them as the Pablo Escobar of our time. Currently, he is playing for the Russian Club Spartak Moscow, where he has played over 200 games.
