But he made sure to let everyone know what a sensational player he is behind the stumps against South Africa. In a crucial Super 8 match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, he broke Africa’s back with his keeping.
What A Captain!
Jos Buttler was on fire against South Africa, not only as a keeper but as a captain as well. He was commanding the field brilliantly and stopped South Africa on a mid-par total even after Proteas had a sensational start.
Buttler changed bowlers with acute calculations and trapped Proteas batsmen in a web that they were not able to weave out. At one point, it looked like South Africa would reach 200, but they were stopped even before the 165-run mark.

But he made sure that his captaincy did not leave his keeping skills behind. He had two moments of brilliance that left Africa grasping for straws on every ball and they started struggling for runs.
The first moment came in the 12th over when Quinton De Kock was ruthlessly destroying England’s bowling. A slower bouncer by Jofra Archer deceived De Kock who tried to chip the ball above third man. But due to lack of pace, the ball did not travel and Jos Buttler took a sensational catch while flying in the air that would have made MS Dhoni proud.
The second instance came in the 14th over when Buttler ran Henrich Klassen out. It was such a sensational throw that even David Miller could not believe it. Klassen just walked away without even looking up as he was not able to gather any thought.
