ENG vs SL, T20 World Cup 2022: After defeating Sri Lanka by four wickets in a difficult match, England became the second team from Group 1 to advance to the T20 World Cup 2022 semifinals. Alex Hales and Jos Buttler added 75 runs for the first wicket as England, chasing 142, got off to a fast start. After Wanindu Hasaranga quickly dispatched both of England’s openers, though, spinners had the upper hand in the game.

Although a string of wickets near the end gave Sri Lankans hope, England never had to worry about the target because it was already no very high and they managed to score 144 in 19.4 overs. As a result of their victory, Sri Lanka and reigning champions Australia are eliminated from the tournament, continuing a trend in which the existing champions are unable to successfully defend their title. Similar to England, Sri Lanka’s top order had a promising beginning but eventually faltered.
Pathum Nissanka scored a superb half-century, while the other players offered little to no assistance. Sri Lanka appeared to be on track for anything between 150 and 170 runs at one point, but they were eventually restricted to 141/8 in 20 overs.
Nissanka scored 67 runs off of 45 balls, while Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored 22 runs per ball for the next-best score. While, Mark Wood shone with the ball for England as he gave a spell of 3/26.
