New Zealand Test players who the part of the Indian Premier League have opted to spend extra days in the Maldives instead of India after their entry in England was delayed by a week.
New Zealand is all set to play the finals of World Test Championship against India at Southampton starting June 18.
The Indian team will fly to England in June and in total they will stay in 18 days strict bubble, 8 days in India, and 10 in the UK.
Till now New Zealand had not announced their squad for the World Test Championship but the supreme players are already making their way to reach England.
Captain Kane Williamson, Mitchell Santner and Kyle Jamieson are the one who have decided to go Maldives and stay there for a while.
“There have been changes to the arrangements for New Zealand’s UK-bound Test contingent, with Kane Williamson, Mitchell Santner, Kyle Jamieson, and physio Tommy Simsek, transferring to the Maldives (rather than staying in New Delhi) ahead of traveling to England,” said a statement from New Zealand Cricket.
“The decision for this group to transfer to the Maldives was taken after advice that their entry into the UK, initially thought to be about May 11, was likely to be delayed a further week,” the statement added.
Williamson, Santner, and Jamieson are among the players who will play against England between June 2 and 14 in the two-match test series.
“Blackcaps (New Zealand team) trainer Chris Donaldson, who initially signaled his intention to return home on one of the NZ-bound charter flights before returning to England, has instead opted to remain with the UK-bound players and is also in the Maldives,” the statement further said.
