ODI World Cup 2023: Every supporter of the Indian cricket team will mark October 5 on their calendars because India will host Pakistan at the Narendra Modi stadium in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, which will start on that date. On Tuesday, June 27, the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 schedule was officially made public. India will host the tournament for the first time since 2011.
Breaking the ICC Trophy Drought and Reigniting the Rivalry
India has won the ODI World Cup twice. In 2003, they made it to the final in South Africa but lost to Australia. India has also advanced to the semifinals four times, with the most recent two occurring in Australia and England in 2015 and 2019, respectively. During this year’s domestic world cup, India will try to break its streak of failure in ICC competitions. Since winning the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 under Dhoni, India has not won the trophy; the most recent failure being their defeat by Australia in the World Test Championship final earlier this month. The last time the World Cup was hosted in India, MS Dhoni and his team won the championship in 2011, making India the first host country to take home the trophy. In this year’s campaign, Rohit Sharma will be attempting to repeat the feat. All eyes will be on the highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan, their bitter rivals. Since the 1992 World Cup, both teams have participated in seven games. Then, in 1996, 1999, 2003, 2011, 2015, and 2019, they would clash.
India’s Schedule in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023
Up to this point, India has won every contest between the two teams played on the ODI World Cup stage. The team lead by Virat Kohli won their most recent match, which took place in Manchester during the 2019 World Cup, by 89 runs. On October 15th at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the two clubs will renew their rivalry. On October 8th in Chennai, India will face off against Australia. On October 11 in Delhi, they will play Afghanistan in their second game. The game against Pakistan will come next, then on October 19 in Pune, they will play Bangladesh. India will then depart for Dharamshala to host New Zealand on October 22 before taking on England in Lucknow on October 29. After that, on November 2nd in Mumbai, India would play Qualifier 2, and on November 5th in Kolkata, South Africa. On November 11 in Bengaluru, India’s round-robin stage campaign will come to a finish against Qualifier 1. On November 15 and 16, semifinal games will be held in Mumbai and Kolkata, respectively. On November 19, the final will take place in Ahmedabad.
