With Gautam Gambhir brining his own coaching staff, BCCI has approached Jonty Rhodes to become the new fielding coach of Indian team.

While the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is firing on all cylinders, BCCI is working hard behind the scenes to finalize the new coaching staff of ICT. Earlier this week, reports circulated that suggested that the board has finalized Gautam Gambhir as the next coach of the Indian team.

The reports also stated that Gambhir has asked for his own personal coaching staff and the board has agreed to the demand. While the reports were not concrete at the moment, it looks like they were true.

Several new media reports have come out stating that BCCI has approached former South African player Jonty Rhodes for the next Indian fielding coach position. The fans are delighted with this news.

BCCI Approaches Rhodes!

The former Proteas international is considered the best fielder of all time. His being appointed as the next fielding coach will boost ICT. The ironic thing is that Rhodes himself applied for this position way back in 2019.

So, we know that there is an interest on both sides. Rhodes has previously stated “My wife and I love the country, and it has already given us so much… We have two children born in India.”

Rhodes and Gambhir have worked together in the past when they both were associated with Lucknow Super Giants’ camp in IPL. Over the past few years, BCCI has opted for an Indian fielding coach, but with Gambhir at the helm, things might be changing.

Gambhir has worked with foreign coaches in the past. He was with Jonty at LSG and Ryan Ten Doeschate at KKR. The new coach’s tenure will be three years, starting from July 1 to December 31, 2027.

Fans Delighted!

The fans are delighted with this news and are eagerly waiting for the appointment. BCCI is set to announce the new coaches by the end of the month. Rahul Dravid has earlier announced that he will not continue after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

With Rhodes as the head coach of LSG, we saw some players improving rapidly in that department. If he also helps the Men In Blue in the same way, the Indian team can benefit largely.

The fans showed their delight and stated it as the best decision.
