FIFA President Gianni Infantino has said that he would urge every country in the world to name a stadium after Brazilian football legend Pele who passed away last week. Pele died on December 29 after a prolonged battle with cancer.
Pele was the only player in football history to win three World Cups.
‘Pele is eternal’: FIFA President
“Pele is eternal. FIFA will certainly honor the ‘king’ as he deserves. We have asked all football associations in the world to pay a minute of silence before every game and will also ask them, 211 countries, to name a stadium after Pele. Future generations must know and remember who Pele was,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
Thousands in line to see Pele’s body
The football fans were in line to see Pele’s body in an open casket in the center of Vila Belmiro Stadium.
The newly sworn-in Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will also pay tribute to Pele on Tuesday.
