Fifa Women’s World Cup: The head coach of the Indian women’s U-17 team, Thomas Dennerby, announced a 21-women squad for the FIFA U-17 World Cup starting here on October 11. The tournament host India has been placed in Group A along with USA, Morocco and Brazil. The Indian team will start its campaign against America on 11 October. The Indian team will then play against Morocco and Brazil on October 14 and 17 respectively. All India matches will be held at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
Coach Dennerby said, “This is a new situation for everyone. India has never played a World Cup before. It will be a completely different level of game.” The matches of the tournament will be played in Bhubaneswar, Margao (Goa) and Navi Mumbai from October 11 to 30. The Indian coach said, “When you are on the field, everything is left behind and you just have to focus on the game. That’s what the girls should do.” He said, “We are not going to the tournament as a contender for victory. I believe the pressure will be on the rival teams.
