Tajon Buchanan sped the ball down the right side, spotting Davis unguarded in the middle of the yard, and sent a thunderous cross in the direction of the goal. Here, Davies timed his header just so to score Canada’s first World Cup goal. The 22-year-old’s headed goal also enabled him to acheive for missing a penalty against Belgium in Canada’s previous game, which they lost 1-0.

The star striker for Canada and Bayern Munich also set a FIFA World Cup record for the fastest goal scored by a nation since 2014. During the 2014 FIFA World Cup, former United States of America (USA) international Clint Dempsey scored the tournament’s quickest goal in a group stage. At the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Dempsey scored the quickest goal against Ghana after only 29 seconds.

Canada’s performance in FIFA World Cup 2022
The Canadian team had lost all twoof their World Cup matches before to facing Modric and company in Qatar. In its opening matchup with Belgium, which was spearheaded by Eden Hazard, Canada attempted 22 shots. In the tournament’s opening match, the team led by Davies was defeated 1-0 by Belgium. Davies missed a penalty against Belgium on Thursday, failing the oppourtunity on that day to become the first Canadian to score a goal in the World Cup.
