FIFA World Cup 2022: Following their triumphant return with the prestigious trophy, Argentina’s World Cup-winning team was forced to forgo its bus procession in Buenos Aires and was also airlifted for a big and significant reason.

People blocked the streets in celebration

Messi-led squad After overcoming the 2018 World Cup champions France in a penalty shootout, Argentina won the tournament after a 36-year wait. The land road was blocked by about four million people, making it impossible for Argentina’s World Cup-winning team to go to the main Obelisco monument.

According to Argentina’s presidential spokeswoman Gabriela Cerruti, “The world champions are flying over the entire route in helicopters because it became impossible to continue on land owing to the explosion of joy.”

National holiday declared on Tuesday

At Ezeiza Airport in the wee hours of Tuesday, the World Cup champions of Argentina arrived home. Thousands of people were waiting with banners honouring Messi and late idol Diego Maradona, flags, and screams of pleasure, even though the landing time was 3am local time.

People are seen swarming the city attempting to see their heroes in the social media video that went viral. Chiqui Tapia, the head of the Argentine Football Association, tweeted “They don’t let us get to greet all the people who were at the Obelisco. The security agents that escorted us won’t allow us to move forward.”

In order to celebrate the end of the 36-year World Cup winning drought, a national holiday was declared on Tuesday.
