FIFA World Cup 2022: For the tournament, Qatar has built several world-class stadium. The stadiums were built with the help of Indian labourers as well. Engineer Shahid Ali of Nagpur, Maharashtra, described his thrilling experience while remembering back on the challenging task of constructing the stadium.
Shahid Ali recalls his experience
In Qatar’s stadium’s construction, Shahid Ali was a member of the crew. FIFA World Cup 2022’s opening ceremony took place on Sunday. Ali expressed his delight at seeing the FIFA World Cup 2022 opening ceremony at the Qatar Stadium while addressing to the media. He said that during the inauguration “I was proud that I was a part of the stadium construction team.”
According to Shahid Ali, working in Qatar during periods of extreme heat was difficult. “I went to Qatar in 2017 when the construction work for the stadium had just started. People from over 35 countries were working with us including China, UK and Australia. Qatar had Indians from the grass root level (workers) to the top management (director).”
32 teams to participate in the month-long tournament
The FIFA World Cup 2022, which is the biggest tournament in football, began on November 20 and will last through December 18. The 64 matches of this tournament will be played in eight stadiums in Qatar. A total of 32 clubs from five groups will participate in the competition for the highest football award. In 29 days, 64 games will be played in total.
The 2026 competition will take place in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The number of teams will rise to 48 during that time. The current winner is France, which defeated Croatia in the championship match to claim its second crown of the year.

Argentine forward Lionel Messi is competing in his final World Cup. He is regarded as the best football player of all time. Additionally, it’s likely that Cristiano Ronaldo, 37, will also be playing his final World Cup this time. The tournament’s knockout phase will begin with the Round of 16 on December 3. The quarterfinals will start on December 9 and the semifinals will start on December 14. The finale match will be played at the Lusail Iconic Stadium on December 18.
