FIFA World Cup 2022: Intense words were exchanged between Qatari and Ecuadorian fans during the opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2022, causing tensed scenes to break out at Al Bidda Park in Doha on Sunday (November 20). When Ecuador was leading Qatar by two goals, a supporter reacted when he was seen making a hand gesture.
Fans brawl over a ruled out goal
Thanks to two goals from Enner Valencia, Ecuador was successful in defeating the host nation by 2-0. First goal from Enner Valencia was disqualified because it was on offside, however, a fan did not notice the real mistake and started shouting which sparked controversy. The brave Ecuadorian supporter also jokingly accused that the referee has been bought off by Qatar.
Though not amused, one Qatar fan yelled at the Ecuador supporter to “sit down and shut up” because he did not see the humour in the situation. Watch the video here:
Both became friends later
However, the two guys later bonded, and they posted about it on social media during the game. It did, however, appear that the Qatar fan had requested the Ecuador supporter’s participation in the video.
The Qatar fan said that, “He is an Ecuadorian and he is here to watch the match today. “In the end we are all here to watch the beautiful game.”
Replying to the Qatari fan, he said “Yes, Passion sometimes makes people upset. But we come together for sport. Sport brings people together. So we are very friendly with each other, I wish Qatar the best, and it’s a beautiful World Cup so far.”
