FIFA World Cup: The mega sporting event, FIFA World Cup 2022, is on the verge of its conclusion and it has seen some of the most memorable wins with some of the biggest controversies. Though, despite all the build-ups and catchy things, there is one thing which always intrigues fans and i.e. footballer’s hairstyle.

The FIFA World Cup has seen a number of memorable hairstyles over the years, from Taribo West to Neymar and from Chirs Waddle to Ronaldo. In this special post leading up to the big event, let’s take a look back at some of the most iconic hairstyles worn by players in past world cups.

Romanian team in 1998

The entire Romanian team entered the field with all of its players’ hair blonde. After defeating England in the group stage, they changed the colour of their hair. In the round of 16, Romania was defeated by Croatia. However, the Romanian squad offered a blonde moment that will be remembered for a very long time.

Chris Waddle

English player Chris Waddle was well-known for his mullett. Waddle had a mullet with coloured lower hair and heavy top waves. The 1990 World Cup in Italy marked the peak of his mullet.

Taribo West

Nigerian Taribo West made a statement at the 1998 World Cup with a distinctive hairdo. The hairstyle appeared to be a combination between green braids and something else that hairdressers are still unclear of.

Ronaldo

In case you were wondering, Ronaldo donned a triangle during the semi-final matchup versus Turkey at the 2002 World Cup, which was dominated by mohawks and an odd crossover of braids. Fans from all around the world emulated Ronaldo’s renowned hairstyle, which also gained worldwide fame.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is renowned for sporting distinctive hairdos. He donned a tramline underlining hairstyle in the 2014 World Cup.

Neymar Jr.

Neymar is renowned for sporting distinctive hairstyles. He made his World Cup debut in 2014 with a wild blond mohawk.
