French Open 2024: It was a blockbuster day in Paris but ended in a heartbreaking way for the ‘King Of Clay.’ It was an emotional day for the 14-time champion who was not able to contain his emotion after the match.
There were speculations that this would be the last grand slam of Nadal, and it was attended by stars like Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, and Iga Swiatek. But it looks like the Spaniard has not been satisfied yet.
After the match, he stated that he is not ‘100 percent sure’ whether this will be his last appearance. The 37-year-old last won the Roland Garros back in 2022 and has been dealing with hip and abdominal injuries for a while now.
Blockbuster Match
It was a sensational match where World No.4 Alexander Zverev defeated Nadal in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-3. Nadal showed glimpses of his vintage brilliance at several moments but was not able to keep it going throughout the matches.
Zverev has now become only the third player after Robin Soderling and Novak Djokovic to defeat the ‘King Of Clay’ in his backyard. The crowd was firmly behind Nadal and the chants of ‘Rafa-Rafa’ took over the court.
French Open 2024: Emotional Farewell?
Nadal was emotional after the match and was visibly in tears. His wife Maria Francisca Perello attended the match alongside his son. Maria was also emotional and could not stop her tears.
Nadal stated that he is not sure whether he would like to walk away yet. He loves this place and enjoys playing there. His body is better than before and he is still not feeling the end.
Nadal stated “I’m not 100% sure if it’s the last time but I enjoyed it, the crowd was amazing during the whole week of preparation and today. The feelings today are difficult to describe with words but it’s special to feel the love in the place I love the most. I enjoy playing a lot and traveling with the family. The body is feeling better than two months ago. Maybe in two months, I say it’s enough. But it’s something I don’t feel yet,”
