It looks like Gautam Gambhir and BCCI are at a crossroads between selecting the sixth coach for the Indian team. Gambhir was elected as the new head coach for the Indian team and he started his tenure with a win against Sri Lanka.
India dominantly won the T20i series to enter into this new era and is now an important issue that has to be resolved. India traveled to Sri Lanka with a temporary caching staff as BCCI has not confirmed the appointments of new coaches.
Gambhir has already stated that BCCI will announce the coaches after the Sri Lanka series. Certain coaches are likely to retain their spots while BCCI is still searching for new coaches under Gambhir’s regime.
Bowling Coach Crossroads?
A few days ago, it was reported that BCCI is looking at Zaheer Khan to be the Indian bowling coach. Sairaj Bahutule is currently part of the Indian team management as the stand-in bowling coach.
But it looks like Gambhir will once again get his way. According to a report by Cricbuzz, Morne Morkel is all set to join the Indian camp as the new bowling coach. The report further stated that the former Proteas pacer will join the camp during the Bangladesh series.
Morne Morkel was previously the bowling coach of Pakistan but left that post after a disastrous performance in the World Cup 2023. Morkel has also played with Gambhir during his KKR days.
Gautam Gambhir Army!
With the report of Morkel, it looks like the coaching staff of the Indian team is all clear. Ryan ten Doeschate and Abhishek Nayar will retain their position as assistant coaches. T Dilip, who has worked with Rahul Dravid is also likely to retain his spot as fielding coach. And considering the sensational job he has done till now, he deserves it.
