The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of the BCCI interviewed Gambhir and WV Raman before selecting him for the esteemed position. Recently, Gautam Gambhir demonstrated his leadership abilities and strategic thinking during his previous IPL 2024 season with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), helping them win their third championship.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah wrote a special note on X (formerly Twitter) expressing his faith in Gambhir. Shah emphasised Gambhir’s in-depth knowledge of contemporary cricket as well as his outlook for Indian cricket. He underlined that Gambhir is the ideal choice for this prominent position because of his wealth of expertise and distinct vision.

Transition Details

Earlier, Jay Shah had stated that the new head coach would be joining the team during the white-ball series against Sri Lanka. As of now, VVS Laxman will lead the squad for the Zimbabwe series.
