GG vs MI WPL 2023: In the first match of the tournament, Mumbai Indians have registered a victory against the Gujarat Giants by a margin of massive 143 runs. The match took place at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai and the Gujarat Giants never really looked into the match. Opting to bat first, MI scored 208 runs in 20 overs with skipper Harmanpreet’s valiant 65 off 30. In response, Gujarat Giants completely tumbled down and scored just 64/9 runs in 14.1 overs. None of the players could turn up for the chase apart from Hemalatha who scored 29 off 23. Four batters of GG were dismssedon duck.

Gujarat Giants fall like a pack of cards
In the first over of the chase itself, skipper Beth Mooney suffered an injury in the ankle and retired hurt. Just in the last ball of the over, Sciver-Brunt dismissed Harleen Deol for a duck. In the next over, Wong dismissed Gardner for the duck on the batter’s first ball itself. In just the next over, opener Megahana was dismissed with the score of 2 off 4 balls.
Next, it was Sutherland who was dismissed by Ishaque for the score of 6 off 14 balls. The GG had a really tumbling start as they lost three wickets at the score of just five runs. However, that was not the end of their woes as their scorecard later read 23/7 after 8 overs. However, Mansi and Hemalatha stitched a partnership from there on and the next wicket fell on 49 runs. Wareham scored 8, Sneh Rana scored 1, Mansi Joshi scored 6 off 19 balls, while Monica Patel scored 10 off 9 balls.
Ishaque picked four wickets while Sciver Brunt and Amelia Kerr took two wickets each and Issy Wong picked one wicket as well.
Brilliant fifty from Harmanpreet Kaur
Earlier, Mumbai Indians batter posted a mammoth total of 208 runs. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur smashed 65 off 30 balls. During her knock, she smashed 14 boundaries, playing with a strike rate of 216. Opener Hayley also scored 47 off 31 balls. Amelia Kerr played a brilliant cameo as she scored 45* off 24 balls, while Pooja Vastrakar scored 15 off 8 balls. Wong, who came on to play just on the last ball of the match, smashed a six as well.
For Gujarat Giants’ Gardner, Tanuja, and Wareham picked up a wicket each while Sneh Rana grabbed two wickets. The next match of WPL is between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals on the 5th of March at 3:30 PM. While Gujarat Giants will face off UP Warriorz tomorrow itself in the second match.
