Jharkhand’s first international cricketer, former Indian team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who left no stone unturned to make a splash on the field turned 40 today on wednesday.
Under his captaincy, India went on to win the 2007 T20I World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy.
As Dhoni celebrates his 40th birthday, let’s take a look at his top leadership traits:
Staying Calm:
He is called ‘captain cool’ for a reason. Dhoni is a lesson for all leaders around the world in terms of ability to manage extremely stressful work environments very calmly. Managing periods of high stress without losing composure is the key to his long term success and good health.
Focus:
Dhoni has a remarkable capacity to insulate himself from his surroundings and remain focused on the task at hand. The current Champions Trophy campaign is a case in point in the wake of the IPL controversy.
Stay Grounded:
M S Dhoni is never despondent after a loss or ecstatic after a victory. He understands that both winning and losing are a part of the game. Even after achieving everything in international cricket, he never lost his footing, which is why he is regarded as one of the world’s most respected cricketers. It is necessary to learn to celebrate successes, accept mistakes, and bounce back.
Selflessness:
MS Dhoni is known for giving credit to his teammates after they win and has been spotted handing over the trophy to the team. We’ve seen him behind the team and other team members carrying the trophy in jubilation of winning.
Competitor respect:
In sport as in business or any other field, you know you have achieved a milestone when your opponents take you seriously and allow themselves to show a degree of respect to you. Dhoni has made that happen by his consistent, calm behavior.
Managing professional and personal life:
MS Dhoni has always been regarded as a family man and enjoys time with his daughter Ziva and wife Sakshi along with his professional duties.
Versatility:
Another masterstroke is remaining agile in both athletics and business. Dhoni can bat, maintain wicket, and bowl in all three formats of the game. He is well-liked, but he does not clamour for attention. In win or defeat, he does not become overly emotional.
