Happy Birthday Rohit Sharma: What better day to celebrate one of the best openers in cricket than on his birthday? Let’s take a look back at one of the best careers of Modern day cricket.
264 Against Sri Lanka
Arguably the greatest inning ever in an ODI match. Rohit Sharma was unstoppable on that day and finished his innings with a Strike Rate of 152. Hitman scored 33 boundaries and 9 sixes in this inning. In reply, Sri Lanka was not even able to touch Rohit’s score and was all out on 251.
5 IPL Trophies
After helping the Deccan Chargers win a title, Rohit was somehow snubbed from the franchise. But that decision completely changed the scenario of the current Indian team. Rohit joined Mumbai Indians as a youngster but was promoted to captain very soon. And after that, we all know what happened.
He helped Mumbai win 5 IPL trophies, joint most in IPL by a franchise. That is why it was surprising to see him getting snubbed out of the captaincy before the start of IPL 2024.
T20 World Cup
Rohit was an integral part of the T20 World Cup-winning Indian side in 2007. He solidified the middle order and played fearlessly in the tournament. A very gritty half-century against South Africa in a must-win game was followed by two very important cameos in the Semi-Finals and Finals of the tournament.
There is no doubt that without those innings we would not have been the inaugural T20 World Cup champions.
Bravest Innings
A very underrated yet one of the best efforts by any Indian batsman. India was struggling against Bangladesh in the 2022 series. Rohit had suffered a freak hand injury earlier in the match and did not come out to open the innings.
In his absence, the Indian team crumbled. ICT was 207/7 in 43 overs when Rohit came on to bat. With 65 needed of just 44 deliveries, Hitman started doing what he does best. Hitting balls out of the ground.
In the end, India might have fallen short of the target, but it was only by 5 runs. Rohit carried the hopes of the entire nation on his shoulder with a broken thumb. A valiant effort and the bravest knock.
The Greatest Comeback
What is Rohit Sharma’s career if not a big comeback? He became the testament of ‘From Undesirable to Undeniable’ in every format. After being snubbed from the ODI side, he made his comeback like a king.
After getting snubbed from the test side, he decided to open the innings and is now one of the best test openers. There are still doubts regarding him leading the team in the T20 World Cup 2024, but we all know that Hitman strikes back harder than anyone.
World Cup Campaigns
We know how hard it was for Rohit when he got snubbed from the 2011 World Cup squad. He has been on a mission since then to show how wrong the selectors were. The perfect example of that is his every World Cup campaign.
He scored 330 runs in the 2015 World Cup with an average of 48. It was a fine tournament for him but no one expected what was coming. In 2019, he shut down everyone, scoring 648 runs with an average of 81 including 5 centuries.
And who can forget his godly World Cup 2023 campaign? He scored 597 with a Strike Rate of 126 and still managed an average of 55! It is a shame that Hitman is still eluded from the prestigious trophy. But he is still playing and is still looking good. Who says no to 2026?
Happy Birthday Rohit Sharma
This is just our way of wishing our skipper a very warm and happy birthday. We wish him all the best for the future and are grateful for everything that he has done for the Indian Cricket Team.
