World Cup 2023: Not long ago, the England Cricket Board (ECB) unveiled its initial squad for the forthcoming ODI World Cup set to take place in India. The omission of the dynamic and emerging batsman, Harry Brook, from this lineup came as a surprise to many. However, Brook has now responded to the selectors through his exceptional century performance in The Hundred, giving a strong statement.
Harry Brook Smashes Record-Breaking Century
Simultaneously with the announcement of the England squad for the T20 and ODI series against New Zealand, the World Cup team was also revealed. It’s worth noting that England retains the opportunity to modify their team until September 27 in accordance with the regulations. While Ben Stokes marked his return to the England team for the World Cup 2023, Harry Brook’s name was omitted from the list.
During his appearance for the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred, Harry Brook accomplished a remarkable century in an astonishing 41 balls. Stepping onto the pitch amidst a challenging situation for his team, Brook’s rapid scoring proved instrumental as he crafted an exceptional innings of 105 runs off just 42 deliveries. His innings was adorned with 11 fours and 7 sixes. In contrast, none of his teammates managed to even reach the double-digit mark on the scoreboard.
Only the third player to do so
Within The Hundred’s history, the distinction of achieving the fastest century has now been claimed by Harry Brook. Additionally, he joins the ranks of Will Jacques and Will Smeed as the third player to achieve a century in Men’s The Hundred. Following Brook’s outstanding performance, the English team selectors are undoubtedly presented with a reason to reconsider their choices. Notably, Brook also delivered a stellar century during the 16th season of the IPL.
