Harsha Bhogle: After preventing Tilak Varma from achieving his half-century in the recent India vs. West Indies 3rd T20I, Hardik Pandya faced criticism from numerous Indian fans. In a twist, well-known commentator Harsha Bhogle has stepped forward to lend his support to Hardik Pandya concerning this issue.
Harsha Bhogle expressed his viewpoint on Twitter, stating that achieving 50 runs is not a significant milestone in T20Is. The situation revolved around Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma being at the crease as India neared the victory target. Tilak Varma, in his third international appearance, was positioned at 49 runs when the team required only 2 more runs to secure the win.

Nevertheless, Hardik Pandya sealed the match with a powerful six, preventing Varma from reaching his fifty. This decision frustrated certain cricket enthusiasts who believed Pandya should have allowed Varma to face the deliveries, potentially enabling him to achieve another T20I fifty. Harsha expressed his bewilderment regarding the discourse surrounding Tilak Varma’s unacheived fifty during the IND vs. WI 3rd T20I. In Harsha Bhogle’s viewpoint, attaining a half-century isn’t a significant milestone in the context of T20I cricket.
He wrote, “I am puzzled by the discussion around Tilak Varma missing out on a 50. It isn’t a landmark, in fact other than a century (which is rare), there are no landmarks in T20 cricket.” Adding further, he said, “I am puzzled by the discussion around Tilak Varma missing out on a 50. It isn’t a landmark, in fact, other than a century (which is rare), there are no landmarks in T20 cricket.”

Nonetheless, it’s worth observing that Harsha Bhogle refrained from mentioning Hardik Pandya directly in his tweet, yet he subtly conveyed his support for him. Despite Varma’s resilient performance resulting in an unbeaten score of 49 in the match, Pandya ended with an unbeaten 20, including a six and a four. Former South African Cricketer AB Devilliers also replied on the post where he backed Harsha. ABD wrote, “Thank you thank you thank you. Finally someone said it.”
