India beat West Indies by 44 runs in the second ODI of the three-match series to register their 11th consecutive series win over Windies. This was the first series win for Rohit Sharma in ODIs as full time India skipper. The India captain tried a very new combination in batting as he opened the innings with wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant who generally bats in the middle-order.
When asked on the new batting combination, Rohit said he was asked to try different things so that move was something different.
“I have been asked to try different things, so that was something different (on Pant opening). We wanted to try it one game and is not a permanent thing,” said Rohit at post match presentation.
Rohit also confirmed that Shikhar Dhawan will be back in the India for the third and final ODI at the same venue.
“Shikhar should be back for the next game. We don’t mind losing a few games while trying out a few things. Because it is important to look at the long term goals. We will see what works out well for the team combination,” he added.
